Get your tweet on and join the Habitat for Humanity International Women Build community for a Twitter party WEDNESDAY APRIL 30th at 2pm! (Yep, that’s tomorrow.)
This is a chance for you to help spread the word about National Women Build Week and all of the good that’s happening across the country May 3-11th. This is chance for you to chat with other Women Build fans, help us get twitter a-buzz with Women Build empowerment, and give a little thanks to National Women Build Week sponsor Lowe’s. (Did you know that Flower City Habitat Women Build is the recipient of one of the 2014 $5,000 gifts? It’s true. Thank you Lowe’s!)
We’ll also be celebrating on Wednesday at our Women Build Guest Bartender Night. So after you’ve twee-twee-tweeted your heart out be sure to join us at The Grill at ONE starting at 5:30pm. We have some fantastic guest bartenders lined up to pour pints for Flower City Habitat Women Build. All of their tips from the night will go to the 2014 Women Build program – so we hope to see you there.
And one more mention of Lowe’s, we’re working on lining up our 2014 Women Build Clinic at Henrietta Lowe’s. So stay tuned for dates and details on how you can gain some DIY skills off the construction site and among your Women Build friends.
Spring has sprung (well, almost), and it’s time to start digging! Save the date and join the army of over 200 Women Build Volunteers as we break ground for the foundation of the 10th home sponsored and built by Flower City Habitat for Humanity Women Build volunteers.
The groundbreaking ceremony is the official KICKOFF for the 2014 Women Build project and celebrates the first day of construction. It is the first of three major milestones in the building of the Women Build home. The second and third are the Wall Raising in June and the Dedication in August or September. Each milestone represents a time for celebration and reflection of what’s been accomplished, and what lies ahead. It takes 77 days to build a house, and this is Day #1!! Please come and grab the ceremonial gold shovel and help with the dig, meet the family and other volunteers!
This also means that you and your teams can start signing up NOW for Build Days, with Tuesday, May 13th as the first official build day. Check out the schedule on Volunteer Up!, Flower City Habitat for Humanity’s online volunteer management system.
EVERYONE is WELCOME! We’ll be there rain or shine (and hopefully, no snow!!). Won’t you please join us? Bring your entire team and remember,
GIVE A WOMAN A POWER TOOL AND SHE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD!!
This week has been National Volunteer Week (April 6-12, 2014) and we want to take the opportunity to THANK OUR MANY DEDICATED WOMEN BUILD VOLUNTEERS!
Each year we set out to empower women to help women break the cycle of poverty by getting a mother and her family into stable and affordable housing. It takes countless volunteer hours to raise the $75,000 to pay for each house AND the labor to build it. But year after year we have achieved this goal because of YOU!
As we begin work on our 10th Flower City Habitat for Humanity Women Build house we want to take a moment and CELEBRATE YOU – our volunteers who commit time, resources, energy and passion to empowering women to break the cycle of poverty by providing a hand up, not a hand out right here in Rochester.
We’re off to an amazing start this year with 22 Women Build teams signed up to fundraise and build!
YOU inspire us – you are creative, committed, and caring.
YOU are making a difference in our city one nail, one house, one community at a time.
“Give a Woman a Power Tool and She Can Change the World”
The Flower City Habitat for Humanity Women Build Program has a goal of empowering women to break the cycle of poverty by providing a hand up, not a hand out. So, 12 brave volunteers will be stepping behind the bar and donating all cash tips to help us reach our goal of raising $75,000 to help build a home alongside a low-income family right here in Rochester.
If you’ve attended in the past, we’re changing things up a little this year and making it a competition! Each bartender will be issued an apron to collect tips (while they are behind the bar and throughout the evening) and all of those tips will be counted towards the fundraising goal of the team they represent. We’ll be counting throughout the evening and posting totals to see who’s in the lead!
